Umrah Packing Checklist for First-Time Pilgrims
What to pack for Makkah and Madinah — from Ihram to the small essentials that make the trip easier.

Packing for Umrah is different from packing for a typical holiday — comfort, modesty and practicality matter more than anything else. Here's a checklist based on what pilgrims consistently tell us they wish they'd packed.
Documents
- Passport and Umrah visa (printed and digital copies)
- Flight tickets and hotel confirmation
- Travel insurance details
- A small amount of Saudi Riyals for immediate expenses
Ihram & Clothing
- Ihram garments for men (pack at least two sets)
- Modest, comfortable, loose-fitting clothing for women
- A light jacket or shawl — mosque interiors can be air-conditioned and cool
- Comfortable, easy-to-remove sandals for the Haram
Toiletries
- Unscented soap and toiletries suitable for use in Ihram
- Travel-size essentials to keep hand luggage light
- Any personal medication, clearly labelled, with a copy of the prescription
Everyday Essentials
- A small backpack for daily trips to the Haram
- A refillable water bottle
- Portable phone charger / power bank
- A prayer mat and a copy of the Qur'an or du'a booklet
- Universal travel adapter (Saudi Arabia uses UK-style plugs, but it's worth checking your specific hotel)
What to Leave at Home
Keep valuables to a minimum, and avoid packing anything you'd be upset to lose in crowded spaces around the Haram. A simple money belt or secure pouch is usually more practical than a bulky bag.
